ALMS Audi bestreitet „Petit Le Mans“-Rennen in den USAAudi contests “Petit Le Mans” race in the USA

Erstmals seit dem siegreichen DebĂĽt in Sebring im März 2009 startet der Audi R15 TDI wieder bei einem Langstrecken-Rennen in den USA: Am 26. September 2009 bestreitet das Audi Sport Team Joest mit zwei Fahrzeugen das zur American Le Mans-Serie (ALMS) zählende 1000-Meilen-Rennen „Petit Le Mans“ in Road Atlanta (Georgia / USA).
Die beiden Diesel-Rennsportwagen werden von Dindo Capello (Italien) und Allan McNish (Schottland) sowie den beiden Deutschen Lucas Luhr und Marco Werner pilotiert. Als Reservefahrer des Teams ist DTM-Pilot Mike Rockenfeller vorgesehen.
Gleichzeitig unterstĂĽtzt Audi Sport mit der Teilnahme am populären „Petit Le Mans“-Rennen die MarkteinfĂĽhrung der TDI-Technologie in Nordamerika. Seit Anfang des Jahres ist der Audi Q7 TDI 3.0 in den USA erhältlich, im Herbst kommt der Audi A3 TDI 2.0 zu den US-Händlern.
Audi startet zum zehnten Mal beim „Petit Le Mans“-Rennen und ist dort bisher ungeschlagen. Sechsmal siegte der Audi R8, dreimal der Audi R10 TDI. Diese eindrucksvolle Serie soll nun der Audi R15 TDI fortsetzen.
(Quelle: Audi)For the first time since its victorious debut at Sebring in March, the technologically innovative Audi R15 TDI will again compete in an endurance race in the USA: On September 26, Audi Sport Team Joest will contest the 1000-mile „Petit Le Mans“ race, which is part of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), at Road Atlanta (Georgia / USA) with two cars.
The two diesel-powered racing sports cars will be driven by Dindo Capello (Italy) and Allan McNish (Scotland) as well as the two Germans Lucas Luhr and Marco Werner. DTM racer Mike Rockenfeller is planned to be the team’s reserve driver.
At the same time, Audi Sport will support the market launch of TDI technology in North America by participating in the popular „Petit Le Mans“ race. The Audi Q7 TDI 3.0 has been available in the USA since the beginning of the year and the Audi A3 TDI 2.0 will arrive at U.S. dealerships in fall.
Audi will contest the „Petit Le Mans“ race for as much as the tenth time this year and has been unbeaten there so far. The Audi R8 won six times, the Audi R10 TDI three. Now, the plan is for the Audi R15 TDI to continue this impressive string of exploits.
