Die BĂĽhne fĂĽr ein packendes Finale der FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) 2009 ist bereitet. In den vier verbleibenden Rennen in Okayama (JP) und Macau (CN) wird sich im November entscheiden, wer in diesem Jahr den Titelgewinn feiern darf. Nach einer insgesamt erfolgreichen Europa-Saison mit sieben Laufsiegen kann sich BMW in beiden Championaten noch Hoffnungen auf den Gesamtsieg machen.
Nach den schwierigen Rennen in Imola (IT) befinden sich die BMW Piloten allerdings in der Rolle der Jäger: Augusto Farfus (BR) vom BMW Team Germany liegt mit 91 Punkten auf Rang drei der Fahrerwertung. Sein Rückstand auf Spitzenreiter Gabriele Tarquini (IT/SEAT) beträgt 18 Zähler. Bei den Herstellern rangiert BMW mit 250 Punkten hinter SEAT (271) auf dem zweiten Platz. Allerdings sind in Übersee noch 40 (Fahrer) bzw. 72 (Hersteller) Zähler zu vergeben – und davon wollen die BMW Piloten möglichst viele für sich verbuchen.
Die Rennstrecken in Okayama und Macau sind in vielerlei Hinsicht exotisch. Während die Teams am „Okayama International Circuit“ in ländlicher Atmosphäre zusammenrücken, erwartet sie auf dem „Guia Circuit“ das vibrierende Flair des Spielerparadieses Macau. Farfus und Müller blieben auch in der WM-Pause im Renn-Rhythmus: Am 3. Oktober pilotierte das Duo den BMW M3 GT2 bei seiner Europa-Premiere auf der Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE) und erreichte im Rennen der VLN-Langstreckenmeisterschaft auf Anhieb Platz vier im Gesamtklassement.

This puts him 18 points behind current leader Gabriele Tarquini (IT/SEAT). In the Manufacturers’ Championship, BMW lies second on 250 points behind SEAT (271). However, the final four overseas races see 40 points up for grabs in the Drivers’ Championship and 72 in the Manufacturers’ Championship, and the BMW drivers have their sights set on picking up as many as possible.
The circuits in Okayama and Macau are exotic in many ways. While the teams are even closer than usual to each other in a rural atmosphere at the “Okayama International Circuit”, the vibrant flair of the gambler’s paradise that is Macau awaits them at the “Guia Circuit”.
Farfus and Müller kept their hand in during the WTCC break: on 3rd October the pair drove the BMW M3 GT2 at its European premiere on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife (DE), finishing fourth overall in the race, which formed part of the VLN Endurance Championship.
